5 EASY STEPS TO SETTING UP YOUR WEBSITE
The first step is to decide on a domain name, check to see if it is available, and register it. |
Now that you have registered your domain name, the next step is to choose a Website Hosting Plan.
Every website needs to be hosted or put on a computer that is connected to the internet 24x7, before it can be viewed.
Shared hosting is the most cost effective way of getting your website on the internet. |

Depending on your budget, you can take one of the following approaches:
- Design it yourself
- Purchase a pre-designed template, or,
- Hire a web designer
The first would be the least expensive approach, but keep in mind that the look and feel of your website is a reflection of your corporate image.
The second option allows you to start with a professional design, but requires you to update the necessary information yourself.
Needless to say, the third option would be the most expensive of the three. However, this would be the way to go if you are brand conscious and want to reflect this on your website. |

Upload or FTP your webpages |
Upload or transfer your web pages to the server so that it is accessible on the internet. You upload files to your web server using a FTP, which stands for File Transfer Protocol.
There are several applications that you can use to FTP your files, but you can also use the Internet Explorer which comes with all Windows based PCs.
Simply type "ftp://yourdomainname.com" into the address bar, and click go or press enter. You will be prompted for a user name and password. Once you provide these details and successfully logon to the server, you will be able to see the files on the server. All you have to do next is to copy from your PC and paste the files you want to transfer.
Using Internet Explorer is the easiest, but it is not a full fledged FTP application. If you want something more reliable and secure, try one of the following applications:

Submit details of your website to the search engines |
Search engines like Google and Yahoo index your web pages so that when someone searches for a company, product or service, they can find them.
A new website is virtually unknown on the web, and unless you submit your website to search engines, it would be highly unlikely that people will find it.
To submit your website to two of the major search engines:
