What makes a good website?
|
| A good website has the following characteristics from a customer's point of view:
- Comprehensive
Most people go on the web looking for information, and your website should provide as much information as possible about your company and products and services.
- Dynamic
Not only should you provide information, it should be up to date.
- Interactive
There should be a way for the customer to contact you through your website. This can achieved through e-mail links, feedback and order forms, etc.
- Easy to use and navigate through
A prospective customer comes to your website looking for information, and nothing turns them off faster than if the website looked confusing and difficult to navigate. Two important factors to consider would be:
- Don't put all your information on one page, break it up into logical sections
- Minimise the use of graphics to ensure faster loading, and where possible, avoid the use of flashy intros, and banners.
|
From your point of view, the website should be:
- Easy to Maintain
It should not be difficult for you to update information. The catch here is that to update web pages you need to have some HTML knowledge, you need to know how your web page is laid out and where the information is. Click here to get an idea of what is behind a simple web page.
- Scalable
As your website grows both in terms of traffic and content, you should be able to move to a higher capacity hosting plan.
